Web-based Educational Games


The best way to get your students to embrace learning is to make it fun. With so many educational games available on the Internet, you can integrate them into your teaching practice that your students can enjoy playing and learning from it. Designed to simultaneously teach and entertain, many games feature concepts created by teachers and presented on a vibrant, professionally animated platform that appeals to children in all grade levels.


After completing this module, students will be able to:

  • identify different online games for learning
  • describe how to integrate games into their teaching practice
  • understand how to manage their classes effectively when integrating games into their classrooms.

Web-based Educational Games

The following websites provide a wide rage of educational games for your classroom adoption. Play as many as you can and pick a few that have great potential for your classes to use. While you are playing them, put on your “critic” eye glasses. Evaluate them from the perspectives of school administrator, classroom teacher, students, and parents. Can playing the games help students obtain the academic goals or learning outcomes you set forth for them?

In this module, hundreds of web-based educational games are introduced. Given the plethora of the online games, making informed decision about the educational games is a vital skill for a teacher. Please identify five games that are appropriate for your subject discipline and justify your choices by citing sources introduced in this course.
