Keep Playing and Learning

The gamification of learning and instruction is not a fad; it is here to stay. The reality is that engaging, meaningful learning occurs when game-based thinking and mechanics are integrated into the instructional design process.  This module introduces research in learning from serious games, innovations in serious games, a new paradigm for education, and an adoption model for educators.

Outcomes

After completing this module, students will be able to:

  • recognize the new the new paradigm of learning in relation to key critical concepts that center around gamification, immersion, interface, and social interactivity
  • describe the history and nature of serious games and compares statistics, market and economical models of serious games
  • identify three different levels of learning processes in serious games
  • identify steps in a game adoption model for educators.

My Adoption Plan

In Chapter 15, Novak and Nackerurd proposes an adoption model for educators: RCIPR model. If you are to use this adoption model to incorporate serious games into your classroom, please describe briefly what you will do for each aspect: Research, Choose, Investigate, Pilot, and Reflect. In your log, please identify grade level and subject area.

This learning log entry should be 250-300 words, should answer all parts of the prompt and should incorporate evidence from this module’s content. Compose your log entry in M.S. Word and paste it onto a Weebly page. Post your Weebly page (URL) onto the corresponding link inside Moodle before 11:59 p.m. U.S. EST/EDT on the next Monday.
